John Wells was known for his ‘Dear Bill’ letters in the magazine Private Eye, all about Denis Thatcher – this farce was a broadening out of that work and was hugely successful on stage when it was first performed in the Whitehall Theatre in 1981 starring John Wells and Angela Thorne.
