BLESSED BE THE KING OF GLORY by Rod Dungate

Blessed Be the King of Glory is a wild comedy, a pantomime strictly for adults only, a nightmare in psychedelic colours, a celebration of religion created in darkest Hades.

 

Pelham, a bit of a waster, comes home from a night out clubbing; he finds his home demolished and his mother wounded and dying. Dark forces have been searching for a great secret the family has guarded for many generations. Pelham is caught up in warring factions – the King, the Bishop, and the Chief of Police. As if this is not bad enough, Pelham learns from the Archangel Gabriel that God has selected him to give birth to the next Redeemer; and Gabriel is not to be messed with.

The plotting is fast, the language is furious, yet in this attack on organised religion, the language has a poetic quality. Players and puppets join together to bring you a parable for the 21st Century.

    Young people will be enthralled by this story – all the more so when gripped by the interaction between live actors and stunning puppets.

    THE OLD QUEEN’S TIME by Rod Dungate

    Ramsay, 68, a gay man in the grand old style, is visited one evening by a young lad, Kieran.  ‘I’m your grandson,’ he tells Ramsay. This outrageous play follows the twists and turns of their developing relationship.  Set in 1992, it brings to life and holds a mirror up to the gay community at a time of great change.  The acting space is set alight with their exuberant use of the old Polari, the secret language shared between gay people, fairground workers, sailors, and others through the ages.

     

    Rapier wit, powerful story, a record of a fast-disappearing language, characters you’d like to have a few bevvies with, and a remarkable feel-good conclusion.
